I am a contemporary fantasy mixed media artist and sculptor with a love of animals and the quirky personalities they show when no one is looking. My work is mostly light-hearted, sometimes serious and occasionally dark. I hope you laugh, celebrate, cry and reflect along with me on my journey.

About the Artist

Mom always said, “Adversity builds character.” To which I replied,
“I have enough character to last several life times. Thanks, Mom!”

H.J. Murphy

Born and raised in West Texas, Heather  showed creative interest at an early age spending many hours abusing one drawing pad after another and any other “art” supplies she could get her hands on with her artistic visions. One of two rebel girls, she dove into every project she could find often with the support of her mother and sister who were creatives in their own right.

Self-taught the majority of her artistic career, she would find herself in a multitude of creative positions ever learning new techniques that would serve to later influence her current independent work. Heather spent several years as a production ceramicist and glazer; managing a ceramic, stained glass and jewelry business; and eventually running a CNC plasma cutter working in steel, aluminum and stainless steel.

Heather currently resides in New Mexico with her husband and their pack of rescue dogs. These days she spends her time working mixed media paintings and her Mache menagerie using a modified version of traditional paper and cloth techniques. It all starts with a very rough concept and an emotion from which each piece then takes on a life of its own.   Heather’s greatest pleasure is watching people’s reactions to her work and seeing what connections happen.
